I don't have an answer but as far as troubleshooting I can give you a few
suggestions.
It sounds like a video problem or codec issue. As an experiment try saving
one of the distorted photos from your Vista machine and email or snail it to
an XP or other machine and see if they are still distorted. If they look
fine on another machine after appearing distorted on your Vista machine it's
most likely a video issue.
Try replacing your Invidia driver with a generic video driver from device
manager.
Try changing your screen resolution or color depth and see what happens.
