travelling laptop - set time & time zone

We are using Dell laptops while travelling or at field offices.

We have to reset the clock and time zone, every time when we get to new
locations. That is quite a hassle. Is there better ways to do this?

Thank you.

Er, all you have to do is change the timezone. What's the hassle? Do it
when the plane lands - no need to constantly change while in the air, which
is probably quite a hassle.

Oh you have to force an update on the Internet Time tab to see the corrected
time, once you have wifi in the airport. There is no need to touch the time
settings.

No, there is not. How can the laptop possibly know where it's physically
located until you tell it?

It's not unreasonable for a casual user to think that your laptop will
update its time when connecting to a WAP or LAN when you arrive in a new
time zone. All routers have this information available. My call phone
updates. Unfortunately, I haven't seen this implemented anywhere for
laptops yet. It would be nice if you would have just stated that, instead
on insulting the OP by stating "How can the laptop possibly know...". I can
tell you how, and that it's possible.

Routers may get the time from nntp servers as well, but there is no way they
can tell computers what timezone to use, and the reason why it is easy for
mobile (cell phones) to update is because their exact global position is
always known by triangulation, or even GPS these days. Some car clocks can
get the time updated from radio waves, but there is not technology for
laptops to use. It's not currently possible, and that is why it doesn't
happen.

I've just been talking to my friend about any possible way that this might
happen in the future, but the best we could come up with is by checking the
GeoIP country data for the external IP address that the laptop next
connects, but that would be very unreliable, as GeoIP data is not complete
and is sometimes wrong. That would cause a lot of problems. As the
internet works on Universal Time, there is no way it can be used for this.

Incredible debating skills. Sounds like you really know what you are
talking about.
