Hi, can anyone help me. When I log onto my homepage I get a "security
alert" and it is a real pain because it wont go away. "The name on the
security certuficate is invalid or does not match the name of the site." is
the alert listed. I check the "yes" on do I want to proceed and still get the
stupid alert back everytime I log onto my homepage. I did check the "view
cerficate" and it was issued to the a248.e akamai.net who ever they are. I
did install the certificate but it still is haunting my homepage. So can
anyone out there help???? thanks :-)

Hi;

I didn't find anything usefull about that particular certificate, but you
may want to download this patch/update and install it manually on your
system: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS02-048.mspx
(see Patch Availability, then click the link for the version of Windows you
are using).

You should probably also check your Hosts file (location varies by Windows
version) and remove anything there that matches the Akamai.net reference.

What version of Windows are you using?

HI Sky, I use Windows ME, and where do I find that 'Host file' you
mentioned??
I looked at the certificate and it says also: "This certificate is intended
to: ensure the identity of a remote computor"" is that MY pc? or someone
elses. Also found info in the certificat that it is from > Akamai
Technologies. who ever that is. I will do that patch and let me know where
to find that host file thing too...thankx for the help :-)

Hi;

On the Millennium system, the Hosts file is probably in your Windows folder.
You will likely find a .sam one there; that is just a sample and can be
ignored. The one you want has no file extension. You may not have one, so
if you have done a Find/Search and included hidden folders, then most likely
you don't have one.

I suspect it is probably an outdated one. Open IE Tools/Internet
Options/Content, then click Certificates. Click each tab until you find
that one, then highlight it and Remove it. You should probably also check
the Trusted Sites list there, and remove akamai.net if it is listed. If
you actually need it for some site, you should get prompted to
re-accept/re-install it the next time you visit the site.

A few years ago MS used that server to help deliver some of the Windows
Update packages. That could explain how it got onto your system.

Hi Sky, finally did remove that pesky certficate. I remembered before that
happened that my homepage was highjacked. I had bookmarked my original
homepage earlier this year just incase that ever happened again. Well, I
re-established that homepage (Myyahoo) and then that was when all the
problems started. So today I clicked on 'properties' on my EI icon and
deleted all the homepages, or so I thought. So I then I made my default
homepage 'blank' instead. I applied that then went to the Yahoo mainpage and
logged into my homepage again and made that default. Now that certificate is
gone.! Thanks Sky for the help and hope that this will help anyone else if
it ever happens to them.
PS..Do YOU know how to make my Notpad part of my HTML editor again? Cant
'view source' for webpages anymore....I build websites and cant sneak looks
at what they did on their pages.......:-)

You are certainly welcome. Glad you got it resolved.

Probably the easiest way is to use the Registry patch supplied by MVP Doug
Knox to restore the Default settings. Download this .zip file
(http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc...iation_fix.zip) then open
it, extract the .reg file to your C:\Temp folder. Then double-click the
..reg file and say Yes when asked if you want to merge it.

etc...bummer.

Have you tried opening Internet Explorer, clicking TOOLS, then INTERNET
OPTIONS, then the PROGRAMS tab and entering/selecting Notepad in the
dropdown for HTML EDITOR?
