trouble deleting multiple recup_dir files

I used a photo recovery free download to try to recover some lost
photos. Unfortunately it created 2, 707 subfolders of data and I cannot
seem to delete them unless I open each subfolder, then highlight all the
files and delete. If I try to delete the whole main folder or even one
of the subfolders my system just hangs. This thing has now left me with
just 8 G free of a 140 G hard drive (after I have so far manually
deleted 170 of the 2,707 subfolders. Anyone have any shortcut to get
this stuff off my hard drive?
