Trouble Double Clicking

I am having problems with opening documents like powerpoint and word etc...
There seems to be a delayed reaction to opening these files when I double
click them.

This has been a problem for a few days, the file will open n problem if I
either right click and "open" or just hit enter when highlited. Any Ideas???
