Trouble with http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/defa

When I click install now, it downloads 100%, installs 100% but I then see
[Error number: 0x80070003]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:

I hae tried all the suggestions in the self help section including
activating all activex permissions but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?

0x80070003 = COR_E_DIRECTORYNOTFOUND
The specified path couldn't be found - ALLUSERSPROFILE Microsoft network dir doesn’t
exist

Make sure the following folders exist under %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\
Note: (%windir% = C:\Windows)

DataStore\
Download\
EventCache\
SelfUpdate\
WebSetup\
WuRedir\

You may need to clear the contents of the Datastore and Download folders.

If the above doesn’t assist, suggestion by Torgeir Bakken (MVP)

If the directory "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network"
does not exist, you will get this error.

%ALLUSERSPROFILE% is normally "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users"

To verify existence/create this folder, you can do like this:

Press Start/Run, and fill in this:

"%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft"

Press OK, and the Microsoft folder will open.

If no Network folder is found there, create it (File\New --> Folder).

Use Regedit very very carefully.
From Run option on start menu, type in REGEDIT.
Make a save copy of registry. Select File, then Export. On the Range
option-tab, select the ALL option. Save the file to a unique name.


Then look for a very specific key. Use Edit , and Find.


In Regedit (very carefully )
Delete the sub-key "SelfupdateStatus" *IF* it is present in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MiÂ*crosoft\Windows\Cu rrentVersionÂ*\WindowsUpdate\IUControl
key.
Exit out of Regedit.



Do some cleanups:
From main Windows Start menu, select RUN, type in
CMD <Enter-key>

type in
net stop wuauserv <Enter-key>

Go to Windows Explorer.
Look on your system drive (usually C ) and look at the Windows folder name. Like Windows or WINNT.
Modify following as appropriate.
If your Windows folder is C:\Windows. Look at this folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

If you find files in there, delete them. That folder is where files are stored from W U downloads.

Go back to Command prompt window.
type in
net start wuauserv <Enter-key>

EXIT <Enter-key>

Can you please check if the below reg key is present

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Win dowsUpdate\ServiceStartup\wups.dll

if yes, please remove that reg key using regedit.exe and run
wuauclt /detectnow
