I'm sorry to bother people about this, but i've come across this problem that
has been driving me up the wall. I've tried uninstalling windows old
messenger (Version 4.7 [4.7.3000]) and downloading the new one, not the
recent one out, but the one under messenger on ninemsn home page and it keeps
coming up with an error when i try to install it.

it reads
"There was a problem with this installation. Windows Live Suite was not
installed.
System error details
Code: 0x80070714
Description: The specified image file did not contain a resource section."

The thing is, it says it every time and has been for the last six months
when I got my computer back after crashing. It had it on there before it
crashed and even when i try copying it and pasting from my mother's computer
which installed alright, it comes up with the same message.

Another thing, on the newest one i tried to install it says need XP or Vista
on there. The problem is my computer 'is' XP and has been the minute I
brought it at the end of last years.

This problem frustrates me heaps due to the fact my family uses it and I
enjoy keeping contact with those oversea. I can't do that if I don't have
messenger and typing emails takes forever. At least when your talking through
messenger, you get a reply back straight away.

Again I'm sorry about troubling you all, but I would love some one to tell
me what to do and how to fix this. Or at least explain to me why it won't
work. Thank you.

Amiee.

It has been my experience than windows messenger and windows live messenger
are two separate programs even though they sound the same and have many of
the same uses. Try re-installing 4.7 and then install live messenger. Just
disable the 4.7 from automatically starting by signing in and changing
options.

Greetings Amiee,

Ignore 4.7 (which is Windows Messenger, not Windows Live Messenger, as already mentioned) and
just grab the latest release of Windows Live Messenger by downloading and running this .msi
file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp

This will bypass any problems with the Live Suite.
