Trouble opening Word and Excel after upgrading to Vista Ultimate

Greetings...

Stumped on why now I am getting an error message on opening most Word and
Excel files after going from Vista Home to Vista Ultimate that says "Windows
can not find....Please type in the right file name" ??? I work with an
office that is still working I believe on XP and the files need to be saved
with 97-2003 version which is 'OK". Is this an unistall/install situation?
Is it a simple default situation? Some files open at the top with
"Compatibility Mode" in the title.

I am sure this is simple yet I have been stumped.

Thanks

JDL

Compatibility mode indicates that files created in Word 97 - 2003 cannot
support certain features of Office 2007. If you alter documents using
features native to Office 2007 such as the new Smart Draw objects, they will
not work in prior versions, since seem to be still sharing documents with
someone who is running versions of Office prior to 2007. As for error
messages, have you tried repairing the installation to see if it corrects
the problem? You might want to post this in the Microsoft Office news
groups:

Andre is NOT advising you to repair Vista; he said repair OFFICE.

Open Word> Help> Detect and Repair

Remember you have to repair Microsoft Office 2007 setup through Programs and
Features in Control Panel. Make sure you have your Office 2007 installation
disk nearby.

Hi,

I recently used a friend's computer who uses the new Office Vista. I am now
trying to open the document using the Office XP on my computer, and it has
become impossible. Please what do I do?

Two things.
1. When you use your friend's computer to create a Word Document, change the save format to Word
2000/XP so that you can use it in your Word Program.

2. Consider adding the Office 2007 compatibility software to your computer if you expect a lot of
these Office 2007 files.

First, note that this has nothing to do with "the new Office Vista."
In fact there's no such thing as "Office Vista." Your problem is that
the files were created by Office 2007, which can run under either
Windows XP or Windows Vista.

You have two choices:

1. Recreate the file and using "Save as" instead of "Save," save it
the old .doc format instead of the new .docx format.

2. Install the free "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats" that lets you read the new
formats. Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
