Greetings,
Windows Live Messenger is MSN Messenger 8.0, it just got renamed -- so yes, it replaces it as
it's considered an upgrade to MSN Messenger 7.5. However, this would've happened immediately
when you installed Windows Live Messenger as the installer shuts down MSN Messenger and
replaces it on the spot.
Regardless, what you're receiving is the standard "can not connect" error code which in this
case probably means Norton is blocking it, regardless if it's turned on or not which is
normal software firewall behavior. You may want to go into the Norton allowed programs,
remove Messenger from the list and then re-add it.
Alternatively if you're still having difficulty and looking for a "quick fix" back to the way
things were, you can quickly use System Restore to go back to before WLM was installed. To
do so, click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo changes to my computer using System
Restore" and go through the wizard.
