I think you are referring to the torrent description, control
file. It would probably have a dot torrent as the final bit of the
file name.
Something like
interesting_program_setup.exe.torrent
You also need a client, such as uTorrent, which I use,
but there are others, and much debate on the merits of each.
I use uTorrent on an XP 32bit box, then carry on with other
things on my Vista 64bit platform. I'm not sure if
there is a 64bit version of uTorrent.
Some downloads can be a couple of GB and some
connections so slow (far end may be slow, and there
aren't enough seeds) that I have had one torrent take
over a week to complete.
You are dependent on seeds (those who have 100%
staying on line)
So you click on the .torrent file, the client,
such as uTorrent fires up, asks if you want to
add this torrent, you click yes, and hopefully
it starts streaming in. When it completes you run
a virus check on the downloaded file, particularly
if it is, or has, any .exe's in it.
When downloading torrents it is worth having a
good firewall, often I do it through one of the public
VPN servers, but that's another story, and
techie stuff.
