If the drive has data on it

the last thing you want to do is initialize it and format it

If it does not show up in disk management
then either the drive is defective or other H/W problems.

You may want to boot with a Linux "live cd" and see if you can access it
from there

Put it back in the original machine and backup all the data before you
go any further

it does show up on disc management & to go any further it need to b
initialized, but when i try to initialize it comes up with the error, i
was an external hard drive, but i took it out of the case, as it stoppe
working, i went to transfer something onto it & all folders inside sai
empty, but on my computer it was still saying the capacity of over 400G
was still being used, then it disappeared from my computer, ver
strange. so i put it as an internal drive for storage into pc & it won
show in my computer, BUT it DOES show in disc management

i am not the best with computers, but im not a novice & im not a
expert, so any help received is greatly appreciated & if possible
little step by step guide??

Thank

Nizzm

I repeat:

you DO NOT want to initialize the drive

it will erase all data

If you see the drive in disk management
you need to assign it a drive letter.

If you cannot do that...you have a problem ...
but do NOT attempt to initialize it.

Since it was at one time working in the external
case try another drive in the enclosure

If it works, then it means the electronics within the enclosure
are ok and the drive itself has a problem

3rd part data recovery software might help you recover the data

One way would be to boot a Linux Live CD and simply copy over the files
you need.
