I joined this forum because I am at a loss on this problem and am i
need of help. I guess I will start with my system specs

Vista Ultimate x64 SP
Asus Rampage Extreme, Bios 050
Nvidia Geforce GTX 28
OCZ DDR3 1600 (PC 12800) 8GB 4 x 2G
Sounblaster X-Fi Elite Pr
2 VelociRaptors in Raid 0 Confi

All drivers are of the latest I could find, as well as the bios
nothing is overclocked

The operating system hangs up usually when I have some sort of vide
and audio running, but it will happen when I don't have anythin
running. I did notice that it does not happen in safe mode. Please le
me know what other information I need to provide to better troubleshoo
this problem. Thanks in advance

You can try what's in the link. What do you have to loose at this point?

sounds like a driver, NVidia cards are bad with Vista.

A clue might be that the problems occur when you use audio or video. I
your soundcard new? Did you update your graphics card or audio car
drivers? If so did the problem occur after that. Or have you installe
any new programs or codecs

Go to NVIDIA's website and make sure you have the latest drives from there or
at least do windows update.

If you added the video card to your system yourself you might want to check
and make sure your power supply is large enough to handle the card. the power
supply requirements will be on the video card box. Changing out the power
supply to a larger one is really easy if that's the problem.

Also make sure you have all your fans running inside the case and that the
vents aren't blocked. heat build up can cause those systems as well.

Also make sure your not having electricity problems in your house. Are the
lights dimming when it happens?

David makes a good point about the power. You should have a Molex to
6-pin adapter and a 6-pin to 8-pin adapte. Search this forum for info
on the power requirments. There are some guys on the board who can tell
you what you need to know. However, from my knowledge you need a decent
CPU to get this beast working properly. Also I have read somewhere that
the Molex to 8pin adapters are not really suitable as they do not
deliver the right power.Don't take this as gospel.. Do some research
yourself before rushing in. Also could you post your full specs
including CPU

Thanks

I have a corsair 620HX which is suppose to be high efficiency 80 plus,
SLI and Crossfire Certified (I am only using one video card) I would
think this would do. I have a server sitting right next to this
computer on the same outlet, which I have no issues with. So I think I
can rule out the electricity factor.

I have a coolermaster cosmos case with 5 120mm case fans and a
ZEROtherm Nirvana cpu cooler. Granted with all that I still get pretty
high north and south bridge temps, but I still hung when I had the case
open and the temps were very cool.

Nvidia Driver 178.13 (latest)
X-fi Driver 2.18 (latest)
Latest Intel chipset driver
Latest NIC driver

I have openAL and the vista codec package installed

I have an Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 CPU (sorry forgot to list that)

i see that you have a lot of RAMs (8GB) can your device hold all these
RAMs? cos the problem occures when playing video.

The power thing doesn't refer to mains power but to your PSU. You hav
a lot of power hungry hardware hanging off your PSU and I just wanted t
check it was big enough. Given the gear you've got and the type o
case, I'm sure thats not an issue. But still be nice to check
