Trying to get ActiveSync to work

Hi;

(I think the Exchange group has a motto that everything must be almost
impossible to do and all error codes should be almost useless.)

I am trying to get ActiveSync to work. I followed the steps in
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...loy/winm5.mspx

Problem 1: I'm trying to get a Treo to talk to Exchange. If I do not
require SSL I get an error code of 85010014. Anyone have any idea what
that means?

Problem 2: If I do require SSL I get an error code of 80072F0D and I
am told there is a problem with the certificate. However, I can go to
intranet.windward.net/exchange and that works fine - so no idea what
is wrong with the certificate.

Problem 3: In installed ActiveSync 4.2, tried to get it to work and in
the course of that filled out the info for my device. Got an error
code but a google search suggested getting the latest version.

So I installed 4.5 and now it thinks I have 2 devices, but that they
conflict so ActiveSync won't run - and it gives me no way to delete
either device (all menu items except help in AS are disabled). How can
I fix this?

Any idea how to get this working? Or am I looking at hours more of
frustration (I probably have 4 hours invested in this already) and
should just give up?

thanks - dave

ps - Sorry if this comes across as upset. It's just anytime I need to
do anything with Exchange, it ends up taking hours - days to do
something that should just work. And if it doesn't work, should give
you a real clear & specific error message.

Discretion is the better part of valor. I've put in 8 hours and all I
do is change the error codes but never get a connection.

I'm off to buy an iPhone. Good luck to those of you that keep with
this fight...
