Hi,

I am trying to installed "Windows Live Messenger" but after I download it
from here :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
then open the file "WLinstaller.exe" it keeps telling me I am not online when
I am online.

The error I get is as follows.

Windows Live Installer
It looks like you're offline
To install Windows Live programs, you must be online
Please connect to the Internet, and then try again.

Thanks

Greetings,

It would be my guess that you primary use Firefox or some other browser than IE generally?
Windows has a built-in online/offline functionality so applications can react accordingly
depending on your connectivity status which is what this is referring to.

As such, just open up Internet Explorer, press Alt to select the menu bar, choose the File
menu, and then verify that Work Offline is checked. Assuming it is, just click on it to
disengage and run the setup again.

Hi,

Glad to hear it. I'll never understand why they don't write this particular error to simply
ask if you want to go online. It's like the most unfriendly and unnecessary dialog.

Hi Frank,

Nope, it's designed to work as an upgrade.

Would you mind starting a new thread with some details of exactly what you're trying to
install and some exact error messgaes that you're seeing?

Hi Jonathan!

I have the same problem but IE and offiline isn't the problem. I have tried
to check and uncheck the offline alternative with the same result. I have
looked at the program control in Zone Alarm to see if it's Zone Alarm which
supress the request, but it looks as WLinstaller.exe has been granted access
to the Internet. I have even shut down Zone Alarm to make sure it's not the
problem - no result, the same message about no connection appears. The
Windows firewall is off as well. I have no problem with other programs - to
be correct - i don't have problem using Internet with other programs (to my
knowledge). I'm running Vista Ultimate, upgraded last week, and I do have
strange problems with other things (WUC for example). I really thought the
worst bugs in Vista was gone by now, but hey, I seem to get my share....

Do you have any suggestion what to do with the Live installation?

Thanx!

I am having the same problem, except the solution in this thread does not fix
the problem. Can anyone else help with this? It's been ongoing for weeks
for me with no solution.
