trying to load my favorite editor

I have an old version of Visual Slick Editor that
I wanted to load on top of Vista Premium. I wanted
it to load at "C:\Program Files\vslick". I tried
three times, and each time, something said it
could not create "C". But it would install it
"C:\vslick".

So I created directory "C:\Program Files\vslick"
and tried again. It still complained that I could
not create "C".

Are users forbidden from installing programs
within the "C:\Program Files" subdirectory?
Tnx,
--cc

Yes, that is correct. Program Files is a protected directory. You might be
better off either looking for an updated version of the program, a
different editor that does what you need and also works with Vista, or
installing it into your own user directory (C:\Users\your-user-name\Vslick.

I have been reading some of the other messages.
I see that there is something called UAC and it is
associated with admin privileges. Perhaps if I had
admin privileges when I wanted to load my favorite
editor, I would have done better.

What is the username and password for admin?

If you want to suggest that I RTFM, please point
me in that direction.

The built-in Administrator is disabled by default in Vista. (BTW, this is
one of the prime reasons you should make yourself one or two extra user
accounts with administrative privileges.) You should be running as a
standard user for daily work.

Any passwords associated with accounts are ones that you assigned yourself.

You might try right-clicking on the installer for your editor and then
choosing "run as Administrator".

I'm sure if you enter "Administrator" into Vista's Help & Support something
useful will come up.
