This is what I received from Yahoo support: Can I reinstall Windows Mail as
indicated?
We appreciate the details you have provided. We see that both the POP
and SMTP telnet tests appear to have been completed successfully.
After careful review, we believe you may be experiencing issues with
your software mail client. This appears to be an accurate assessment,
since the POP and SMTP telnet tests prescribed operate under the same
manner as do software mail clients. A failure by a software mail client
to connect or authenticate, whilst a POP and SMTP telnet test is
successful, would indicate a software issue unrelated to your Yahoo!
Mail Plus account or network connectivity.
We recommend removing and recreating the Yahoo! Mail Plus account in
your software mail client using the settings listed below. If this does
not resolve the issue, you may also consider uninstalling and
reinstalling the software mail client to eliminate possible software
corruption.
If you have any questions regarding your software mail client, please
refer to the online help or contact the vendor's user support group.
Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail Plus:

Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail name (your address without the
"@yahoo.com")
E-mail address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (i.e.

Please note that:
* the Yahoo! POP server does not support Secure Password Authentication
