Trying to update XP and office

I am trying to upgrade form service pack 1 and I get this error message when
I try to get it to check my computer
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view and this error message.
If I tell it to scan to see what updates I need it scans for many hours.
Whta now???
