When someone gives you the suggested fix - it is customary to try said fix
before asking them to give the same fix to you again. ;-)
However - since you seemed to have missed it (appreciate the details
though); here is the suggested fix again:
How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and
product upgrades, and replace product manuals
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246
Visit that web page using the link given. Note the contact numbers and such
and utilize those to contact the appropriate offices to find out *if* you
can get a replacement CD in your case.
Microsoft will only be able to replace CDs for products you have proof of
purchase/ownership of - any third party products (things that don't come
installed with the Windows XP OS for example) will be your responsibility to
get replacements for. (If Microsoft is able to help in your situation at
all...)
Worst case scenario - given you have a product key sticker - you could
borrow a friends Generic OEM Windows XP Home Edition CD and utilize it with
your product key to install cleanly. (Whatever you do not backup, you
lose.) Essentially -what i am saying is that if you can find a generic OEM
Windows XP Home Edition installation CD from someplace - chances are you
will be able to utilize it with your product key.
(Generic means it is not "branded" by the company that provided it to the
user - like Dell, HP, IBM, etc.)
