For some unknown reason MS has removed the File Types tab in Folder Options.
What has replaced it has not got the advanced bits of what was in XP.
This page shows a program that replaces it very nicely, but it comes along
with a lot of other stuff that I do not need, and it is not free. However,
the free trial will let you do what you want. You have to find the .ttf
file extension and make Install the default action.

PS. You wanting to make this slightly faster in this way probably means
that you install a lot of fonts. I use a lot of fonts, but would never do
that as the font menus in my applications would become far too long, and I
would never be able to find the font I want.
Maybe you should get a font managing program, which can enable sets of fonts
on the fly, and they can be located anywhere on the system, or even network.
I use Extensis Suitcase, but I believe that there are free alternatives as
well.
