How turn off automatic updates for selected files?

I am running a Windows XP computer, and like many others, I am having trouble
with the installation of certain Net. Framework files using Windows Automatic
Updates.

Specifically how can I "tell" the Windows Automatic Updates feature to not
list certain Net.Framework files for installation (ones that will not
properly install) while Windows Updates continues to function normally with
respect to other files? Or to put it another way, is there a way to
temporarily list certain files for Windows Updates to ignore, until the
problem with those Net. Framework files is fixed?
Thanks.

Let's address the "Or to put it another way," in your posting in reference
to the whole...

You should just fix the problem or attempt to - the problem is most likely
with your machine and thus there will be no 'fix' put out for you and the
few (in relation to how many total systems there are out there and how many
do *not* have this issue) that are having the trouble. More than likely
something you installed (allowed to be installed) in the past has affected
your machine in such a way that you are now having trouble with some
specific updates. There are work-arounds and fixes out there for you to try
(like uninstalling all .NET Frameworks, doing a little other cleanup and
re-installing the .NET Frameworks again) that will get around/fix the damage
done to your machine by whatever.

You can always turn off Automatic Updates (or at least fully automatic) and
then pick and choose what you want downloaded/installed on your machine.
You can even select to HIDE updates you choose not to install if you use
that method. In other words - if you want control - take control.
