Turning off anti-virus when installing updates?

Hi,

What's the general consensus on turning off anti virus programs when
installing windows updates? Not that I have had any problems keeping
it running, but I was wondering if it's considered a good idea to do
so as a precaution since the updates are potentially quite drastic
changes to the core system.

Thoughts?

Leave the antivirus alone. Let it do it's thing. I have never had a
problem with updates clashing with anvirus. If you have Norton or McAfee, I
would ditch those awful programs and get avast or AVG Free. Much better for
your Vista system.

I agree with ''spankey'' antivirus should not interfere with your updates .I
have norton at the moment and even that doesn't interfere with
updates,although i will be getting rid of norton when my subscription runs
out.

I've not had any updates fail to install on XP or Vista machines when
running various Norton AV products, including NIS2007 i run currently.

If the update is a quality update the AV software, if it's also a
quality package, should not cause any problem.

If you are using one of those intrusive packages like NIS, disable
everything except the AV solution, take the PC of the internet (unless
you have an external firewall), and then do the update.

Agree with Spanky. I use AVG Free fully active and no problems. (nor with
win mail either)

All updates on my Vista system are automatic. I'm not about to try to turn
off my AVG Anti-virus program at all hours of the night. I have never turned
it off when installing new programs.

Never turn off your anti-virus protection while the computer is
connected to the Internet! (And I've yet to see or hear of a case of an
anti-virus application causing problems with the Windows Updates.)
