I have recently bought a HP DV2000 laptop with Vista Home Premium. It has
come with a ton of HP overrides to Windows functions such as wireless
connections, etc.

Is there a simple way to allow Vista run my machine without HP add-ons?

Almost everything HP adds is going to run from startup. Start/.../Run/ type:
MSCONFIG
The startup tab should let you uncheck some of that.

Go to Control Panel/Programs and features and uninstall the Hp assistant
software or any stuff listed there that you do not want.

Thanks .... but now I get an annoying "Windows Blocked Start Up Programs" pop
up. Can I get rid of this, too?

Yes, there are several ways. The popup should show a checkbox to not do that
again. There is also a way to edit the entries out of the registry. I like
the Autoruns utility, since it's a checkbox to remove the entry.
