TV Playback slow and Choppy using Media Center on Windows Vista

When I watch tv using Media Center the live tv is very choppy and slow. When
I explore Media Center going to the video or photo sections, the performance
is very slow and almost freezes up. Playing DVD's or recording tv shows are
smooth and the quality is better. Any help would be appreciated.

It appears that your tuner card and your graphics card may be sharing an
IRQ. Be sure that you tuner card and your graphics card are using slots as
far apart as possible.

What is an IRQ? Sorry I'm not very technical. I believe my tuner card and
graphics card are far apart.

You can use Google to find articles about IRQs.
In any case it looks like your graphics card, the one with the connection to
your monitor, and your tuner card, the one with the connection to your TV
source, are trying to share a resource which is not available. In any case
you can see from the connections on the back of your PC if the cards are
close together or not.
Is your audio also slow and choppy?

I will mess around with my IRQ settings with my monitor and tuner card. My
tuner card is towards the bottom of the computer tower and the monitor card
is towards the top of the tower. The sound is not slow or choppy...just the
video. If you have any other ideas please let me know. Thanks

Since you are not having audio problems with Live TV then it is your
graphics card that it is not able to keep up with the video output.
What is your CPU utilization when watching LiveTV?
What make and model of graphics card are you you using and what make and
model of tuner card are you using?

I am using a AVerMedia M791 NTSC/ATSC TV tuner card and my graphics card is a
NVIDIA GeForce® 6150SE. I have a Gateway GM5472 Desktop Computer. I'm not
sure about my CPU utilization...where would I find that?

A 6150SE is not powerful enough to process HD programs. The minimum 6xxx
card recommended for 1080i HD in Media Center is a 128MB 6600GT. With
today's generation of Nvidia 8xxx chips a 8500GT or 8600GS is recommended.

In Vista a 6600gt may not be enough since the NVIDIA XP PureVideo decoder is
not designed to work in Vista for the same reason a 8500GT might not be
enough.
