I recently have t o reboot my computer and when configuring Windows Media
Center it will not allow me to configure the TV. I am getting this message
"Tuner Not Found" and the text is "The tuner hardware is either
malfunctioning or is not installed. Please ensure that both the tuner
hardware and a valid tuner hardware drive is installed." I really don't know
where to go from here. If someone could please help I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Which TV tuner card is installed? If it's a not a Media Center compatible TV
tuner card then the message is normal and you must purchase and install a
compatible tuner before you can view TV in Media Center.

And if you have a Media Center compatible TV tuner card already installed
then here are a few suggestions:-

Use System Restore to revert the system back to a time when the error did
not open.

You may have to reinstall TV tuner driver. Install any tuner driver updates
from the tuner manufacturer.

What exactly is your definition of reboot? Make/model of computer and
version of Windows would help.

Windows Media Center “tuner not found”
The tuner card worked fine for nine months then one day it was no longer
recognized by Windows media center.

The main tool used in this process is the tuner driver and the “local
services” function
Particularly the Windows media center receiver service properties.

There is supposed to be a screen which says “the new logon name will not
take effect until you stop and restart the service” that screen only
appears when you change the receiver services properties from “this account”
to “local”. That message only appeared once in the 4 days and still the
tuner is not recognized by windows media center!

I have watched a Microsoft service technician from India try to make this
work for the past 3 days. I have literally been on the phone with him for
nearly 3 hours each day. (actually 507 minutes of cell phone time) He has
found all of the drivers that I had found and installed, disabled,
reinstalled, redownloaded them. All of the drivers are Microsoft certified”
He has manually added the tuner card and let the system do it itself. I have
reseated the tuner card many times and plugged it into the second. I have
purchased the new upgraded tuner card and we have tried to make it work with
Windows media center

He has started and stopped the services many times. He has deleted the
programs which makeup Windows media center and then let the Windows 7 system
disk reinstall them.

latest driver 1.44.27253 10 sep 09

It might help if you shared some info --

What tuner card?

Other hardware specs (video especially)?

Has this always been in a Windows 7 system?

If so, did you have this start when you updated to the RTM from the RC/Beta?

Are you using MS drivers or those from the manufacturer?

Anything else change on the system?

Did you check for malware?

Which AV program are you running?
