I am using "Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Global" with audio from the tuner
hooked up to the CD audio port on my motherboard and running Vista
Ultimate x64. It works without any major problems (the tv tuner software
turns off Aero when watching TV, but switches it back on when you close
it).

Hope it helps.

I have a rather old model I got in a trade with a guy from craigslist.
Anyway, it's a Hauppauge WINTV 878 9 tuner that works with a program
called dscaler. It is very bare bones, no dvr function, but now I can
get at a tv to watch baseball when the wife and kids have the other ones
tied up! Same scenario, it turns aero off automatically and then it
goes back on when you close out of it.

How much did that cost, if you don't mind me asking, and can you record with
it?

Thanks,

Lang

It was 37 EUR, I bought it 6 months ago. It has recording capabilitie
and it is able to encode to MPEG1/2 (you can set the quality) on the fl
and I think it can even record directly on to a CD/DVD (never tried it)
Besides recording it has also a timeshift function, an FM radio
teletext, etc... Mine also has a neat tiny tuner on the PCB so it'
quite slim too

Digital or analogue? If digital, which country are you? There are
different digital standards.

If you were in Europe or Australia and wanted a DVB-T card, I think the
Black Gold Dual DVB-T card is the best. I have one.

It has very sensitive tuners, dual hybrid tuners, great picture, no remote.
I got a MCE Remote to use with it.

In the US people still seem to be buying analogue tuners mostly, and you
can't really go wrong with the Hauppauge range for those, but the card above
is better than the Nova-T twin tuner model, if you wanted digital.

You can record with any tv-card. Analogue tuners, like that one, mostly
come with PVR features these days. This just means that there is a hardware
MPEG encoder. With the powerful processors we have these days it is
actually better to use the processor with a better compression and picture
quality provided by better codecs. Hardware encoders are not necessary on
digital cards, as the digital broadcasts are in MPEG-2 anyway.

I bought a Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro USB TV Stick and it seems to work fine with
Vista, including receiving HD signals from local broadcasters with the
antenna that was provided.
