UAC bizzare behaviour

I turned off the User Account Control by running msconfig, opening the
Tools tab, launching "Disable UAC," and rebooting the computer. The
operation was successful, but as a side effect Windows Media Player
could no longer play VOB files copies of DVDs that I have created
myself) stored on a hard drive, claiming that "this dvd cannot be played
in this region" or something to that effect. When I restored the UAC,
Media Player could once more play these files with no problems. On
another computer, turning off UAC in the same manner had the effect of
swithcing Internet Expolorer to a different home page. Again, restoring
UAC brought back the original home page.

Any explanations? Can anything be done about this? I truly don't need
the UAC.

Regards, Yon

This probably has something to do with file and registry virtualization
which only works with UAC on. If you want to run with UAC off, something I
don't recommend, you could try uninstalling the application with UAC on then
reinstalling with UAC off. The application may still fail. It sounds like
it's not really Vista compatible.
