Hello all!

I installed Foxit Reader. Every time I want to run it, I have to enter an
administrator password. How do I remove this requirement?

Thanks,

Dave

You should find the exe for it, and set "Run as Administrator", a
property on the exe, to set it permanently.

You won't be promoted for the admin password if you're logged in as
admin, but you will have to allow or disallow the execuition with a
button click.

I don't see anything under properties that says "Run as Administrator".
This problem started after I installed the latest version of Foxit Reader.
Prior to that, it ran fine when I ran it as a user. I almost never run as an
administrator.

Well, the new version needs admin rights to run, which is probably due
to some programming changes to the program. Therefore, a standard user
account must give the admin password to escalate the program's
privileges to run.

With UAC enabled, your admin account that Vista gives you out of the box
is not a full rights admin account, and it is reduced to being a
standard user account, after the machine is booted and the O/S reaches
the desktop. So that account is going to be prompted too for the allow
or disallow program execution for a program that needs privileged
escalation, instead of giving a admin password when a standard account
is used.

If the exe Properties tab doesn't have an Advance button that shows the
Run as Administrator, then you should be able to make a short-cut for
the program, go to Properties, Advanced Button, and set Run as Admin there.

I always run the non full rights admin account Vista gave me out of the
box, because with UAC enabled, the account is just a standard user
account, in reality.

There is only one admin account on Vista that as full admin rights at
all times, and it's in the link below. The admin account you have is not
that account or any admin account you create is not that admin account.

Is it not on the Compatibility tab?

I only have Win 7 here; that's where it is in the Properties window of
executables on my computer (either in Program files or in Program Files
(x86))...but obviously I can't check on a Vista box.

I went to the VS2008 devenv.exe. There is no where to set Run as Admin
on the exe's properties. I needed Run as Admin, which I was able to set
on the exe's shortcut properties off of the Advance button.

Weird enough...

I would expect Run as Admin to show up the same way in the properties of
all executable files, but I guess foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of
little operating systems...or something.

There is no way to turn off UAC for particular program. You have to
completely turn off UAC by turning off it in control panel.

Try to grant full access rights to Users group into the C:\Program
Files\Foxit Software folder. Or, run Sysinternals Process Monitor and
look for text "denied access" in the logs, maybe there is a permission
issue in registry.
