After a new install/rebuild, updates will not install all the updates at once.
It wants to install an update one at a time.
eventually they all install but one at a time?? OUCH.
Especially when there are 72 or better updates..
did something change at MS?
it used to work great about 2 months ago..

You could try the Automatic Updates and WindowsUpdate Reset tool
http://www.codeplex.com/aureset

Hello johnnyb,

Try using Dial-a-Fix

See if this thread helps.

2 months ago, you hadn't reinstalled Windows.

CrystalBall© sez...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

You also may need to get the latest Windows Agent located at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104 Seems it fixes a bug if your updater
detects if you have 80 [or more] updates.

A possible better option is to install SP3. You will need to at one point.
After that install, there are maybe 25 updates. [If you install SP3, follow
the various suggestions including doing a clean boot before installing SP3.]
