Hello,

I would like to ask the following:

1. My Vaio AR has come with ultimate on. I made installation CDs aftewards.
How can I discover that if I can convert my 32 bit version to 64 bit
version?

2. If my ultimate is 32 bit version only, is there a way to upgrade to 64
bit without incurring additional costs?
Or do I need to buy the 64 bit of vista all over again?

3. Is there a way to test if my programs will work n 64 bit?

4. How do i understand if a program of mine is 32 bit or 64 bit supportive?

You can convert to 64bit, but the process entails buying the 64bit version
and then clean installing..

You can't convert a 32-bit operating system to a 64-bit operating system.
You would need to do a clean install. Of course, you should make sure you
have a 64-bit processor. Refer to your Vaio manual or to Sony's tech
support site.

You would need to contact Sony tech support and ask them. Since your Vista
32-bit comes from Sony, if they don't offer 64-bit you would need to
purchase a full retail version of Ultimate 64-bit if you wanted it.

Only by running them in a 64-bit operating system.

You go to each program mftr.'s website and look at the system requirements.

Unless you have applications that will work significantly better in a 64-bit
environment AND there are 64-bit Vista drivers for all your hardware, it
would not be a good idea to switch.

.... and what about the MS Office Adobe Illustrator Corel applications,
(is there a special 64 bit version) and data files saved in 32 bit version?
Does it create any problems?

MS Office works fine but is not 64-bit now. Check the website for the other
ones. Generally they will work if they are a recent version. Data files
are not a problem. Files created by 32-bit programs will work fine on a
32-bit program run on a 64-bit OS.

Thanks for explaining. I thought that Redmond stables
should have all stars and bells ready by now. Why would
64 bit MS Office be still absent from the market?

It is scheduled to have some applications available in 64-bit versions this
year. There is not much need for the the main use for 64-bit, the access to
memory over 4 gig, unless you are working with very large spread sheets or
powerpoint.
