Un able to download & install updates from Dec 16 05 onwards

Had microsoft auto updates turned on.
Microsoft auto update error msg: unable to install updates
The last succesful upgate was: Office 2003 Project 2003 Service Pack 2
Friday, 13 January 2006 Microsoft Update
