My in-laws just got a HP Pavilion 6333W with Vista Home Premium. I tried
installing various anti-virus programs (after uninstalling the Norton that
came with it), and when I do, IE will not bring up the webpages. The same
happened when SP1 was downloaded and installed. It says that I am connected,
but the browser won't bring up web pages. I can regain net access by
uninstalling the offending program/update. I can't figure out what is going
on. Any suggestions?

Look for firewall settings in the anti-virus app that does that.

Did you completely uninstall Norton? Forgot URL but go to Norton Web page
get uninstaller for all Norton "stuff". Worked for me. Then got "A vast
home" for free.
