When I go to the Windows Update Page It simply will not load.
Instead, I get the following messeage:
"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem."

The it gives me the usual list of sites to visit such as FAQ etc.

Also, it displays the following error number in the upper right hand corner
of the page:
"Error number: 0x80245003"

Can anyone help with correcting this problem?
I cannot access the Windows Update Page from any site including the links
from the Microsoft Home pages. The results are the same.

Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update Web site:
"0x80245003"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919749/EN-US/

If you need to reinstall the ActiveX controls (because they may have become corrupt):-

Follow this article -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan for updates when
you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or of Windows XP Service
Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259

Note: WU Client 3.0 - Windows Update Agent:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

or for the 64 bit version
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe

A suggested fix is given by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919749
"Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update
Web site: 0x80245003"

It seems that everyone but microsoft is aware of the problem. I attempted to
trouble shoot through their website, and they do not recognize the error
code. I sent a message to them and I guess all we can do is wait, and hope
they find a solution. It not only affects windows update but also windows
defender.

I pretty much came to the conclusion that it was a bug in one of their
current security updates that we all downloaded that has corrupted their
"Windows Update" page.

Nobody can access the Update Page even from Microsoft's on website links to
the "Windows Update" page!

Looking at some of the so-called work arounds that one finds on the
Microsoft trouble-shooting sections of their website is a flipping nightmare.
I'm not going through all of that! They're going to have to come up with a
"patch" to download to fix this problem!

I hope they're all reading this!
