Hi,

The following error is displayed when clicking on either the Custom or
Express buttons on the Windows update site:

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view.

The pc is running Windows XP Home, SP2. I have tried repairing Windows,
reloading SP2 and reregistering all dll's starting with wu in the windows
system32 folder.

Many thanks for all help and suggestions.

I'm getting the same message right now trying to update Windows 2000 with
Service Pack 3. Can't ever get a listing of what updates are available. The
error number in the upper right is 0xC800021F but Microsoft's website says no
information on that error. Any help would be appreciated. ...Lyle

0xC800021F

May be caused because of an issue with the Internet cache or corruption in the
Datastore.
Use this method to clear the IE Cache / Datastore
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Once you have done the above, now register the MSXML3.dll

Click Start, select Run and now type: regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Try Windows Update again.

Thank you BIGTIME TaurArian; following the articles directions to turn off
Automatic Updates, rename SoftwareDistribution, and restart Automatic updates
made it work. I didn't try to resister the MSXML3.dll as you said since it
now works and I was afraid to keep playing with it. Thank you for helping
on this group. Much appreciated. ...Lyle
