unable to add contacts(WLM)plz help!!!

Hi,
I was using my windows live mail for over years never had any problem but
from last few weeks when i add somebody or somebody adds me i just couldnt
see them online i can see that they r in my contact list.it shows their
nicknames,i mean its not like that it just shows their email address,no! i
see their actual nicknames but they r offline even they r online.they can
chat with me but soon as i hit their contact to speak to them messenger opens
up my mail box to mail them.i mean this is freaking me out wat the hell has
happened.
I googled for the solution, there were some solutions,i tried all of them
like i deleted shared folder under windows live folder in my registry.I have
also deleted my policies registry. but its still same,contacts which i have
added in past few weeks when i open them you 'd see a prompt telling u to add
him or her now, however when u click on the link within the information
bar,absolutely nothing happens!
If this can be solved i need ur help guys!please.I will be really really
gratefull

> one more thing i have over 1000 contacts in my list does it make any diffference?
