Hello all.

ok WLM is a fairly nice piece of software and apparently add ons like
messenger plus! make it even better.
ok my situation is that another user has added me as a contact.i appear
online and everything ok at his WLM and he can message me ok etc.the problem
is at my side.although i ve added him it always appears offline to me and
cannot see his picture etc.right clicking onto his image does not give me the
option to instant message but only email the contact.therefore the only way i
can talk to him is by having the other end initiate the conversation so that
the window pops out on my side.when i talk to him the " isn ot
in ur contact list.Add to contact list" clickable message appears but does
absolutely nothing when clicked.

we are both using WLM 9 build 14.0.8064.206 and not yahoo messenger etc..
my email address is @live.com and his @yahoo.com
we have both deleted each other and readded with no change whatsoever.

i ve found a possible solution on another website that appears to have
worked for a number of people but i still havent tried my own:

To delete your cached directories:
With Windows Explorer, navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\your_windows_login\Contacts\your_msn_mail

Delete the entire subdirectory named your_msn_mail.

Now navigate to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\your_windows_login\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\your_msn_mail

Delete the entire subdirectory named your_msn_mail.

and afterwards Delete you handshaking policy cache:

for Messenger 8.1: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsLive\Communications Client
remove the subkey Shared

is there a solution to that problem or should i give a try on the possible
solution stated above?

Thank You.

ok i did tried deleting that directory C:\Documents and
Settings\your_windows_login\Contacts\your_msn_mail

plus the shared subkey of my policies reg key.

at the solution i also had copied that i have to delete this directory
problem is that when i go to C:\Documents and
Settings\your_windows_login\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
Live Contacts\your_msn_mail

C:\Documents and Settings\your_windows_login\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

there are a few directories ( i have 3 msn accounts im using) that are not
named under my msn but with some sort of SID instead so i cannot say which
one goes to which account so as to delete it.how can i find that?

thanks again.

ok Pablo i did all the 3 steps i described below and deleted the
subdirectories from the 2 destinated directories plus the registry subkey
stated and no it hasnt worked for me.
the website where i had seen that is this one
http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/wi...ssenger-2.html
and it appears that it has worked for many people but not for me.
i know that microsoft wouldnt recommend to just go on and do what somebody
stated in another site but i think there should be an answer on this bug or
an unofficial temporary workaround if such exists.
would be nice to have a reply from Jonathan.
