So does safe mode work? If not, you probably have a damaged installation or
corrupt file system. The most likely "next step" would be to run error
checking from a command prompt by booting the Vista disk and loading the
recovery options. If it's a corrupt file system, the repair options won't
work and you will probably have to reload. If you haven't made backups of
files that you don't want to lose, I'd suggest bringing the system to a
knowledgable friend of local pc shop.
If so, then it's a matter of deciphering what is loading at boot to prevent
normal mode from completing. You can use the msconfig tool for this.
