Up until a week ago....i was able to change my automatic update settings

i originally had it on "Download Updates for me, but let me choose when to
install them"

but now it has been changed to "automatic"...and it won't let me change any
of the settings, as they have been "greyed" out
(i don't have SP2 installed yet, and I have Windows XP)
I recently updated my computer, and I think one of the updates changed these
settings.
Does anyone know which update changes the automatic update settings? or how
i can fix my computer so i can change my settings again?

Check the Service Manager for "Automatic Update" service
Click Start, select Run and type: Services.msc
Press Enter
Locate the - "Automatic Update"
Make sure the service is not disabled and started.

If necessary:-

Go to START, Select RUN
Type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Press Ok

Thanks for the help!

I tried the Services.msc, and my Automatic Updates are started and
Automatic, so should I change it to manual?

If i run the updaterestore.reg on
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, will I still be able to
install SP2 properly? I have had quite a few problems with installing SP2
from the windows update site. I download it perfectly, I disable my
antivirus, but it took a while to finish installing (30 min), and when I
restart, (I have win XP professional), the black screen says: "Windows XP"
with the bar at the bottom (like it should), but only for a second, and then
it crashes. I end up having to restore my computer. Are there any
prerequisites for SP2 that I'm missing? I have all the updates, and I've
scanned my computer many times for adware, spyware, and viruses.
