Hi. I'm hoping someone has had this problem and can help. I'm using a HP desktop that is running on Vista. This morning I am unable to connect to the internet. On the network and sharing center, my home network is now listed as an unidentified network and there is a red X between that network and the internet. My wireless signal strength is strong. After 2 hours on line with HP, I have gotten nowhere. What I do know is that somehow a bad IP address is being assigned to my computer and I am not able to change it. Ran a system restore and other diagnostics, have refused to run a system recovery because there are way too many applications and documents on the computer. I had this problem a week ago with a brand new hp mini notebook, and finally just returned it. Now I'm having the same problem with my 8 month old desktop, and HP has no idea how to fix it. I am currently using a new notebook in the same wireless location, without issue.
Is there any way to solve this problem without wiping my computer clean? Thanks,
Mike
