ALL RIGHT!! I was angry, sad, and completely fed up....but I may have
found it!
1- I did NOT get rid of the message bubble that sates Message "Device
has been successfully installed" followed by "Unidentified Device.
Searching for preconfigured driver folders..." (or nearly that).
Therefor, I am not confident WMDC is reliable....just wanted to clarify,
as this is one of the syptoms in this thread.
2- This may be it for some (was not my problem): I found that Windows
Live One care does NOT work together with WMDC. I did find a work around
here: 'the::unwired - HOW TO: Sync Windows Mobile with Windows Vista and
Windows Live OneCare' (
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3597)
(please note that in my experience the Windows Defender, seperate but
symbiotically tied to Live One care, is evil for various anoying
reasons. Windows Defender was a beta program and precursor to Live One
Care. If you ever get rid of One Care (which I did) you need to
seperately get rid of windows defender.)
3- HERE IS THE GOOD PART! Ok, so the Microsoft site "highly recomends"
proper conection of PDA device prio to and durning WMDC...we touched on
that....however, I think it may be required...heres why:
4- PDA's have a new "advanced conectivity" setting, which seems to be a
live protacol parsing information while connected. THIS NEEDS TO BE OFF
TO USE WMDC!!
A. The level 3 tech with Verizon didnt even know this, but you
should be able to talk to you manufacure tech to find the setting and
disable it.
B. Uninstall WMDC and WMDC Udate from control pannel, need to
restart to take effect.
C. Make sure your phone/pda is NOT set to hbernate when not touched
(my i760 by samsung would NOT comunicate unless in fully active mode.
Disabling hybernation (a power save feature) elivated problem.
D. Install WMDC after above changes made. THIS TIME...WMDC actually
DID open automatically, however I almost quit because it took 5 minutes
to load (no exageration). When it did it had a couple new (but standard)
first time run options, like seting up my i760 partnership profile!
So as as the partnership/initial set up happend, the device center
automatically connected to the internet and found/updated my Samsung
i760 driver (now I know what your thinking, but the samsung driver WAS
the most up to date according to the Verizon link. Should have known not
to trust them). Necassary or not, the fact that WMDC actually function
properly and as advertised was a big indication things were progressing
on the right path. Now when that was updated...
So for any who want to go a step further (past just sync and file
browsing via WMDC) Here is how I finished and set up my tethered modem:
I made the setting change on the PDA to act as a modem, must be manually
done with my i760, and then I manually had to make a dial up connection
(vs. using the verizion auto dialer program called VZ Access Manager, as
it still would NOT pass step one modem via cable comunication test in
that program). Almost arkaic to set up a manual dial up network profile,
but it is simple and for PDA modems, they are dail up connections.
So please, if anyone still has a problem, continue to post solutions
and the site admin said he will sticky this thread if there is a good
soluition.
Question is, did I find the root cause for most???....Please chime in!
