Unable to connect to the service (hr=80070422)

I am unable to update several of my PC's at the moment. They are all Windows
2000 and until recently worked and updated perfectly fine. Please find
attache the WindowsUpdate.log

I have followed many articles including 822798 etc, but am unable to get it
to work. All others update themselves fine, and are made from the same build
etc. I have removed the anti-virus software as a test and it stil didn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The necessary service "Automatic Updates" (WUAUSERV) is not started or
is unavailable. Error 0x80070422

Thankyou for your response that did indeed work, and got the windows update a
little further this time. Now it is failing when downloading the Windows
Genuine Advantage Tool. Below is part of the log:-
