I am logged in as the admin and am getting a message that I don't have rights
to connect to the workgroup.
I can ping the other machine and have internet access.

What simple thing am I missing?

Not a Media Center related question, repost to a more appropriate group such
as the networking group of what ever version of Windows your using.

Well, please post after the Comcast conversion (not sure what you
are converting from/to).

A temporary solution is to static IPs for the machines/devices and
entries in hosts files..

Need more info to really be of more help, as you know..
