Unable to create a new folder

Vista Home Premium - SP1

All of a sudden when I right click on an empty space when exploring a
folder, I no longer get the usual menu which includes 'New'. I get a
menu that includes 'View, Sort by, Stack by, Refresh, Customise this
folder and properties'.

So I can no longer create a new folder by this method, though I can by
using DOS commands in CMD mode.

I have uninstalled SP1 and reinstalled it, but get the same problem. I
believe that there are also problems when trying to cut and paste
folders, though copying alone works fine.

I am logged on as an administraor and all permissions look fine.

I can't find a solution elswhere on the Net, so can anyone help please?

Jack

Thanks to a Skype call to my son in the UK who is an IT Manager, I have
solved this problem.

He suggested downloading CC Cleaner, a free registry cleaner. I ran it
once and bingo, the 'New' option returned to the right click menu.

Job Done!

I have two choices:

1. Since this was "all of a sudden", you could do a System Restore to when
things worked.

2. Or you could apply this fix by MVP Ronnie Vernon:

Copy the text between the dashed lines (not the dashed lines) and paste them
into Notepad. Save the file as New.reg and place it on the Desktop.
Double-click the file and answer the prompts to Merge the file to the
registry.

This should restore that right click menu option.
