Although I don't have an answer that refers to the specific error message, I
have found that in Vista and in XP, System restore is often blocked by an
installed antivirus application, such as Norton. If you disable the a/v
application and run S/R again, it will then work. This may not be what is
affecting you but on the other hand, perhaps it is.

Try System restore in Safe Mode.

'Vista Backup error puzzle'
Check if task is corrupted
At a command prompt type : schtasks/query | findstr/i "replace with
name of task example above would be Reminders"
(Mind the spaces)
Look for
ERROR: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with.
ERROR: Task cannot be loaded: Reminders (task name)
If the above is true delete the task at the following location and
recreate: (you should notice a file with the affected schedule task at
this location) c:\Windows\System32\Tasks
If that does not help you have to delete in the registry the "Task
Name"
Open regedit
- find it in the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\
-and in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\
- delete them
Not neccesary to say that you should have a valid sytem restore point
or backup the registry before altering the registry.
(see the ref forum for details)
