KB896428 Vulnerability in Telnet client could allow information disclosure
(June 13, 2005)

This is an old update, why has it taken so long for you notice that it has
failed?

Please check your update history for any failed error codes and post back or
in the alternative, do a search on the Newsgroup.

You could also manually download and install the update.

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an
update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server
Update Services
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the
0x80070002
or 0x80070003 erro
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False

Also some have had success with

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service, clear the contents of the DataStore
and
Download folders, and restart the Automatic Updates service.
Stop the Automatic Updates Service.
Click Start, Choose Run, In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Select Properties.
Under Service status, click Stop.
Click OK.

2. Delete the Contents of the DataStore and Download folders.
Click Start, Choose Run, In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Delete the contents of both the DataStore and Download folders

3. Start the Automatic Updates Service
Click Start, Choose Run, In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Select Properties.
Under Service status, click Start.
Click OK.

You'll most likely lose your history - but that's not important.
