hi I read the posts on zip file problems but my problem have some different
symptoms. Can someone assist?

I am running a new clean installtion of Vista Enterprise and office 2007
enterprise.
When trying to open or extract compressed or .zip files, the files inside
doesn't open. It shows the contents of the zip folder eg. I can see there is
forinstance 2 Word docs or a pdf file that is compressed. I can see the info
on the file eg. original size and compression ratio, but when i double click
the file, nothing happens. Using the "extract all" command on the folder
results in the message "this folder is empty"

It happens to any .zip file on disk or received on email. Also happens to
any type of file that is compressed - htm, pdf, doc

I ran the registry fix in one of the previous posts on the winhelp.com site
- same problem

thanks

Are the zips being blocked? Right click on one and select Properties. At
the bottom of the General tab you will see if it is blocked or not.

That said I don't know if that is the reason why you can't open them but
it sounds like a good place to start

Interesting! Does right-clicking on the files (inside the zip folder), and choosing "Copy", and choosing "Paste" in the destination folder work?

The event logs is clean. Also no security failures are logged pertaining to
the problem.

I found something that worked - for me.

After you have downloaded a zip file a small window comes up that has
the choices, 'OPEN' and 'OPEN FILE' - when I click on either one of
those, the zip file cannot be opened properly. The same as original post
above.

Instead - close the small window without taking either 'open' action.

Then open a 'Computer' file window (Start --> Computer) - find your
saved zip file and proceed to open here.

This has worked for me, I don't know why it works this way as opposed
to the other.

Try fixing the zip file associations and handlers....

Make sure you backup your registry before doing it..
