I am experiencing much difficulty accessing windows update and denied access
to see what critical updates have been made on my computer, (I am running
windows XP home edition, Service Pack 2 which was automatically updated by
microsoft) despite my settings are for automatic updates, it appears that I
haven't had any critical updates since August 2005. Some time ago I was able
to e-mail on line directly to customer security support and advised them of
the error code 0x800B0001 which was dealt with by customer support for me and
they had installed IEreg32. I continually have messages saying "checking to
see if I have the updated windows version" in order that I can see updates,
which is unsuccessful, I cannot even see review history reports etc. Every
time I want to try and download anything from microsoft security, (applies to
anything I try to download!!!) microsoft inform me that I am attempting to
download from unknown publisher, requires software to be digitally signed by
microsoft. Active X controls I am unable to fix, whether this has something
to do with Internet Explorer I am not sure.

I am absolutely at my wits end trying to resolve this problem, it would seem
that customer support for the security related issue directly on-line chat or
e-mail no longer exists. I have recently undergone extensive spinal surgery.
I have been at my computer virtually all night to try and resolve these
issues for myself, not only am I unable to get my head around any of this,
but, my back can't take anymore. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE is there anybody out
there that can help me resolve the problems that I am having.

Thank you in anticipation of some assistance who ever you may be.

Hi!
I think I had the same problem as you for a long time, but just today I
found the help. I was as hopeless as you, messenger or hotmail didn´t open by
internet explorer...
I have the same system as you and did get that same error message. I wrote
the numbers in the search area and there was my help. Somebody had had this
problem too and there was "somebodys" advice how to solve the problem. And
now everythings allright (i hope ;-) I updated my xp and now world is open
again!! I am happy!
So try the same thing as me...
Good luck!
