Unable to install 2 updates

Machine info-
Vista home premium 32bit
3gb ram
160 gb hdd

Other symptoms - Machine will not shut down normally requires hard boo
hangs in logging off.
- Takes 7-9 mins to boot up
- Task manager is unstable sometimes it does not allow you to open i
although it appears in taskbar.
- slow in general

The 2 updates that will not install are- IE 8 for Windows Vista
-Microsoft.net framework 3.5 servicepack 1 and .net framework 3.
family update (KB951847) x86


Any help is appreciated I have been dealing with this for a couple o
months now

Are you running Vista, Vista SP1, or Vista SP2?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Hello PA Bear and thnaks for responding.

I am running Vista SP1
Antivirus is CA ANTI VIRUS and it is up to date
No firewall besides windows
No Anti spyware.
