hello, This is the latest one that i can't install. KB910437 - I've
noticed that I've been not able to install the Microsoft updates from
both from Windows update site and by trying to download updates to my
computer, individually. When downloading from Microsoft updates site,
none of the downloads are a success, they all fail. It says that I have
35 updates to install on the computer.

When downloading the updates to my computer individually, then try to
install. I get set up error, saying that did not complete. I spent some
time on here trying to troubleshoot it myself, trying every method, but
none have seemed to work for us so far. I'm not sure if my computers
not telling Microsoft that I have the updates and they are at updating.
Or they're just not updating.

I've tried software distribution folder method, turning off firewall's,
but it Norton 2006, can't figure out had to disable that. Hope someone
can help me, have a great day.

Have you ever been able to download/install any updates? You
need to give a descrip of your computer and what yo've done and
can't do and want to do. There's not enough to work with there.

Thank you for replying back!

yes, I used to be able to, SP-2 was downloaded on this computer while
back, maybe like a 1 1/2 ago. and I'm pretty certain I was getting
regular updates, until i looked in the control panel. I noticed that
automatic updates was turned off, which I think I did. But the radio
button was disabled, shaded gray, was not active to turn on, so i
couldn't turn on automatic updates, even if I wanted to.

The Tech at HP: told me to delete the the file in the registry, and
that made the radio button in the automatic update panel active. I
don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but maybe this is
where it started.

So, for a while no updates, especially that last one. Every morning
when the computer boots up, it tries to download updates, but can't
install.

What I would like to do is download the security update that
Microsoft's recommends that I need to have on my computer. That is not
happening every update fails.

nothing has hampered me from trying to do something on my computer,
except installing Windows updates.

Here is a description of my computer:

My computer:
XP home edition version 2002 SP-2
HP Pavilion Zv5000, gig of ram.
80 gig harddrive.
Pentium 4. 3.00 Ghz

please let me know what else you think you'll need, I really appreciate
you replying back and try to help me.

If you can't figure out how to stop the Norton firewall and start
the Windows firewall, then until you get it figured out try
running the MBSA - it's another way to get security updates:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../mbsahome.mspx
Download, install and run. Then when it's done, for each missing update
it gives you a link to download and install the update. This would be
an expedient to get you updated, not a fix for Automatic Updates.

cool tool, thank you for that. i downloaded and ran the tool, said
that I have 35 security updates that need installing. Then I click the
button link to fix the problem, which brought a pop up window of all
the links to the security updates for my computer.

when installing updates to computer, I just get an error message,
saying

SET UP ERROR:
"installation did not complete"

even when updates are saved to my computer, i get this message.

I got the new version of antivirus 2006, I don't have Norton firewall,
the older version you could just right-click the icon in the taskbar
and disable iit. This one you can't, but figured out how.

Also turned it off so that it doesn't start up when Windows starts.
Just to test to see if Microsoft updates would install with the
antivirus turned off and the firewall, even tried it in safe mode to
see if that would work. my user account created it has administrative
privileges.

after trying, no luck.

thanks for responding.

Doesn't sound like progress. There are several reset the configuration
type tools you could try, such as Dial-A-Fix (Google it) and a variety
of fixes at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 , but updating gets
no-charge support from Microsoft and the quality of the support seems
to me to be much better than it used to be, so if you don't want to rush
to a clean installation right away I'd suggest that you take advantage:
