unable to install drivers HP C4180 photosmart

My friend wiped my laptop and put all the software back on, updating from
Vista to v
Vista Ultimate. He left town before I had trying reinstalling the drivers
for my printer. I put in the CD that came with it, but to no avail. My
computer offers to look for it online, but then can't find it. I went to the
HP website and thought I had found it, but no. Now, windows update says it
has a solution to the problem but it doesn't seem to be able to install
correctly either. Two failed attempts, this last one error code 800701013

I am not savvy about this stuff...can someone tell me what to do?

0x80070103 (not 800701013) - As it is a driver you're trying to install then
you are being notified that the driver you are trying to install is already
installed or you’re trying to install an older driver. (It is my personal
opinion that all drivers should be obtained from the manufacturer's site
rather than from Windows Update.)

It appears as though your driver for your printer may already be installed -
try adding your printer if it's not showing.

Ok, so I went to control panel, Add Printer and it prompts me to select the
type of printer. Under HP, it does not offer me Photosmart C4180, it only
has Photosmart 3100 series.

Every time I plug the cord in from the printer it prompts me to install the
drivers...so for some reason it doesn't think they are there....

I did, originally when the disc didn't work, went straight to the website
but it still has not worked.

This appears to be more of a problem with installation of your printer -
suggest you try the Vista Newsgroups.
