UNABLE TO INSTALL KB905474 UPDATE

I'm not able to install the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
update. Please help me!

Then re-boot Windows. Does this solve your problem with 905474?

FYI... I found resolve in another way... I received the same msg [Windows
Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)] in the failed Windows update
history. I attempted the update several times, to no avail. Curiously, I
went back into all the updates showing in Add/Remove Programs within Control
Panel. I found that it may have failed today because my PC actually
installed it successfully on 4/30/2006. Thanks to the add'l info from Robin
Walker (MVP) I went into: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/ and was able
to validate this version of Windows. The update went away after that.
Here's hoping that someone else may have the same luck as I did.

I had the same problem as others in this (an other) threads.
mtndirtbikegal's solution didn't work, but yours did!

Thanks alot.

Had the same problem and downloaded the exe file, and looks like it worked
for me too (Windows Update is not picking up the WGA tool as having failed
and needing to be installed now). After installing the above file though,
before rebooting, I did get the following error:

The instruction at "0x10106018" referenced memory at "0x39346366". The
memory could not be "read".

Note that while after running the exe file, Windows Genuine Advantage
Notification (KB905474) is no longer showing up as being needed to be
installed, however, in my Update History, there is no entry for a successful
installation of this update either.

That's normal - the Update History does not include updates applied
manually.
